Tilgate

Tilgate

The quiet residential area of Tilgate is home to Tilgate Park, where dozens of tree species grow in woodland connected by trails, including English oaks and Japanese red maple. Lakes in the park are popular spots for water sports and fishing, and the Tilgate Nature Centre has non-native animals like macaws and capybaras. The Walled Garden, with horticultural displays, a picnic area, and a hedge maze, is another popular attraction.

Tilgate Nature Centre

In addition to more than 500 animals, including owls, otters, reindeer, ravens, frogs, and pheasants, The Tilgate Nature Centre is an excellent and affordable place for the whole family to visit.

North and South American species are featured in our brand new Americas Zone. In addition to Alf, we have Bob and Naz, a pair of curious alpacas, in a mixed exhibit with capybaras. You can also meet Diego, our coati, as well as our burrowing owls and red-footed tortoises next door. In large aviaries there are parrots including green-winged and military macaws, pearly and sun conures, and red-lored Amazons, as well as scarlet ibis, mourning doves, and various duck species. There are several snakes in our reptile house, including Jamaican boas, as well as lizards, spiders, fish, and dart frogs.
